Why we made it GTS marks the introduction of the second generation of MILLE—an all-new bib short that builds on the iconic GT shorts’ Total Comfort formula with its plush double-layer insert, fatigue-reducing textile, and revamped fit. GTO marks the pinnacle of the Total Comfort MILLE GT line - spiritual successor to the iconic CENTO and Campionissimo Bib Shorts. It features the plushest, most responsive and breathable ASSOS insert to date, wrapped in our new frictionless, wrinkle-free paneling. The GTO has two leg lengths: STANDARD and LONG (+3cm vs standard). BEHIND THE PRODUCT With large-muscle support, friction, and excessive pressure remaining critical issues on long-duration rides, GTO destroys conventional bib short construction formulas. We reversed stitch lines and radically reshaped the insert to eliminate friction and genital pressure, while providing matchless muscle support with tapered, wrinkle-free leg panels that mirror your personal physique.

Mountain bikers need clothing solutions too, so we set about extending our premium, mountain bike-specific OFFROAD collection. Our apparel engineering team were tasked with the challenge of creating a breathable yet durable short that has signature ASSOS performance yet doesn’t break the bank. The result of their hard work is these XC-specific bib shorts, for which we just can’t find enough superlatives. Employing the ripstop, high abrasion resistant and breathable dyneRope fabric (which is stronger than steel), these shorts have been put through their paces by the BMC MTB Racing Team’s best riders. And with such stringent world class testers giving their approval, it’s clear that the pedigree of these shorts has already been confirmed. The result is a tough, lightweight and highly breathable pair of shorts that are perfect for the toughest XC trails. According to the team, the dyneRope on the outside of the legs wicks sweat like no other, delivering a seriously world-class performance that saw the riders sweep the team standings at the 2017 UCI MTB World Cup series. But no matter how hard you’re pushing while riding off-road, there’s always a need for superior ASSOS comfort in the saddle so we’ve opted for our opulent MTB-specific insert. Placed a little further forward than its road counterpart, it is tuned for the steepest climbs and sickest flow trails with memory foam. With the 160-gram Equipe RSR Bib Shorts S9, Assos started from scratch and re-engineered the platform as a whole—and came away with the lightest, most comfortable race-spec bib shorts to ever leave their laboratory. These bibs are made with Type 701kompressor material that delivers the perfect combination of compressive hold, durability, soft hand-feel, and the lowest weight possible. In other words, the material becomes your second skin, delivering phenomenal structural hold, breathability, and a silky smooth, uninterrupted wrap along the low back and thighs. Assos' new bracing system works together to stabilize the shorts and secure the insert in place. The S9 generation incorporates just two panels, with a primary “butterfly” panel fully wrapping the legs and converging in the rear to form the ergoBox structure. This design effectively frames the insert in place and provides you with an ultra-comfortable wrap that works in conjunction with Type 701 material for the best fit ever produced. The bib straps have also been redesigned using calibrated stretch throughout, with the rear section using a single section of elastic material—folded over on itself—forming an A-frame in the back. It delivers limited vertical stretch in order to add further stability. In the front, the straps are made of a more flexible material, with an antibacterial carbon weave, to lay flat and wick moisture. Assos also focused on a single insert platform, which allowed the freedom to reassess what is most crucial to a streamlined, race-spec insert. They reduced the overall footprint to shed additional weight, employed superAir microShock foam with 3D waffle, incorporated the kraterCooler system to increase airflow up front, and took additional measures to anchor the insert at the rear with a patented horizontal stabilizer. The result? Total ASSOS comfort you’ve come to know and trust, stabilized more than ever.

The next generation in committed riders' bib shorts of choice, defined by its frictionless waist, refined air-cooling insert, and muscle-wrapping textile. We took this generational redesign as an opportunity to make the MILLE GT better at the things we loved about its predecessor, including our premium X-frame suspension carriage, a refined comfort waist fit, and a reduction in seams and weight (28% and 5g, respectively). The insert also got some attention, inheriting the increased ventilation of our GTS/GTO models and receiving 3mm of additional cushioning.
